Corns On Feet – Need Treatment in Dudley, Halesowen, Stourbridge or Wolverhampton?.
What is a Corn?
Foot Corns are painful cone shaped pieces of embedded hard skin, which when pressurised cause soreness and pain. Corns develop on weight bearing areas or parts of the feet under friction, such as tops of toes, soles of feet and in between the toes, due to perpetual pressure and/or friction.
Are there different types of Foot Corn?
Most people suffer from either hard corns (heloma durum) or soft corns (heloma molle), however there are other types of corns such as seed corns (heloma milliaire), vascular corns (h.vasculare) and neurovascular corns (h.neurovasculare). Hard corns are, as the name suggests, hard and soft corns soft, found in moist warm areas such as in between the toes. All corns will feel very painful when pressure is applied from the top, although having a corn removed from a competent practitioner is surprisingly painless.
Common causes of Foot Corns
Common examples are too tight or too loose a shoe or any incorrect footwear, bio-mechanical issues, such as hammer toes, bunions or flat feet. Although corn removal is a simple procedure carried out by a qualified practitioner, the corn will always return if the problem isn’t removed. Assessing the problem, not just treating the symptoms – Many patients have successfully solved this problem by wearing corrective insoles or silicone pads to alleviate and redistribute the pressure. Off the shelf corn plasters are not recommended as they can not only destroy the corn but will destroy the healthy surrounding tissue as well, creating soreness and is never advisable for diabetic patients as sore broken skin may ultimately lead to infection.
